FAQs

Below are a few examples, the FAQs will be completed and translated into French and German by POSIC and be provided to BeMore during the project or uploaded by POSIC using the CMS tool.

Is it possible to organize the FAQs in sections, e.g. encoder questions, tool questions, commercial questions etc?

Is it possible to attribute keywords to the FAQs in order to facilitate the website-internal search function?

Answers may contain figures and may contain links to other pages of the POSIC website or outside the POSIC website. Is this OK?

Question

Are POSIC encoders working correctly at zero speed?

Answer

Yes, the sensing principle in a POSIC encoder is a differential transformer. The primary coil generates a magnetic field, the secondary coils measure the magnetic field, which is modulated by the scale or codewheel. This mechanism works perfectly if the codewheel or scale is not moving.

Question

Are POSIC encoders sensitive to magnetic fields generated by magnets, coils, direct drives etc.?

Answer

The POSIC encoder is a differential transformer. The primary coil generates a high-frequency (1 – 2 MHz) magnetic field and measures this field back using the secondary coils. Perturbations below 1 MHz are filtered out. As most magnetic fields from magnets, motors, drives etc are well below 1 MHz, these magnetic fields do not influence the encoder. On above, the secondary coils in the encoder are arranged in a differential was, so that a magnetic field acting on two differential measurement coils is eliminated.

Question

What is the maximum length of a cable connected to a POSIC encoder?

Answer

The maximum cable-length of a POSIC encoder is approximately 1 meter. This limit is due to the SPI-communication required for the configuration of the encoder using the ASSIST Interface Board. If For longer cable length, please use an RS422 driver or another interface.

Question

What type of outputs does a POSIC encoder have?

Answer

POSIC encoders have ingle-ended (e.g. ID1102) or differential (e.g. ID4501) CMOS output stages, capable to source/sink up to 4 mA. For a higher output rive, please use an RS422 driver of another interface
